Choosing Bottles and Nipples
There are so many different options for nipples and bottles. You can get nipples in orthodontic, traditional, or with flat tipped shapes. Nipples also come in different sizes and flow rates according to the age of the baby.
You will know the hole in the nipple is too big when formula pours out in a stream. The formula should drip steadily out and the nipple should be discarded when the hole is too big.
Nipples should be replaced if they show signs of discoloration or thinning. Check nipples from time to time to prevent them from breaking and becoming a choking hazard.
As with nipples, there are so many options for bottles. Since all bottles work well, don't get hung up on finding the perfect system. Until you decide what works best for you and the baby, it might be best to only buy a few of one type of bottle. for the first few months, the 4 ounce bottle will work as a newborn will only eat up to that amount at each feeding. As the baby grows, you can graduate to using the 8 ounce size. |
